Just as reading comprehension is important in our children's linguistic development, music reading comprehension is equally important to their musical development. If children feel confident and secure in reading from the beginning, once they reach more complex repertoires reading will not be an impediment, and they will be able to concentrate on other musical elements in greater depth. This workshop is aimed at children in Tales from a Musical Journey 2 or Musical Journey who wish to ensure fluency in their reading, using different pedagogical strategies.

This is your opportunity to work on your favorite piece of the method with its author, the renowned pedagogue Irina Gorin. In the form of a master class, two sessions of 120 minutes each will be offered to work as a group on the different corrections and recommendations of the author to the repertoire chosen by each participant who is part of the method.

Deadline for Video Audition Submission: April 01, 2024
Registration Fee: $30 USD

- The judging committee will evaluate the contestant's video submission. All videos must be submitted via YouTube link/links. The video could be recorded up to nine months prior to March 15, 2024.
- All applicants will be informed of the jury's decision regarding the preliminary round no later than March 30, 2024. Those who have passed will be invited to participate in the concert with piano and orchestra in Bogota, Colombia.
- Repertoire: One work from Tales from a Musical Journey 1A, 1B or 2 / One work from Musical Journey 1A, 1B, 2A or 2B.
- Memorization is required.

The basic aspects of the first two books of the method will be worked on: Tales of a Musical Journey 1A and 1B.

The main purpose will be to show how to work on the learning of basic piano skills through the freedom and flexibility of the different parts of the body: shoulders, elbows, wrists and fingers. Books 1A and 1B, dedicated exclusively to "non legato", teach the correct attack and sound production starting with a single note. Once the basic technical skills are acquired, new aspects of piano technique are gradually added.

We will work on the basic aspects of the last book of the method: Tales of a Musical Journey 2. It will be shown how to work with students on the continuation of the method, developing their technical skills, working intensively on staccato and legato, as well as reviewing non legato. Book 2 introduces musical notation in the four octave range and eighth notes are added to the rhythmic understanding. A variety of traditional songs and easy classical pieces continue to develop a taste for classical music, expression and interpretation.
